"Tonight I'm Getting Over You."

-an In My Veins continuation.

•No more crying to get me through. I'll be dancing till the morning with somebody new. Tonight I'm getting over you.•

One year after an inevitable, shattering heartbreak.

The house is filled with laughter, a new year upon them all. She's smiling in the corner of the room, watching over every single smile and good natured but awful song being sung in the latest round of karaoke. Her crazy family had been there through all the tragedies and heartaches through 2016. It had been a hard year, testing her at every corner. It had been a year ago, on this night, that she could barely stand up on her two own feet. She had lost every semblance of happiness in one whole night, a night that had been meant to start her whole life anew. Little did she know that this heartbreak would open her eyes to a whole new life. A girl who once thought her life had ended as soon as he had broken her heart in a matter of telling her that she hasn't been enough. She knew now that their separation had been inevitable, he had wanted someone who could keep up with him and that was all. Every time she looked in the mirror for a whole five months all she could see were her stretch marks and her scars. Inevitably it was all because of him. The only time he had ever told her she was beautiful had been when he doused himself in expensive liquor. Now she looks in the mirror with pride, her curves no longer a burden; her image no longer leaving a bad taste in her mouth. The moment her feet touch the ground and her hair flew around her face that had been the night that she had gotten over him. His voice no longer haunted her, and her heart started mending. Someone had loved her for who she had been. And now he had regretted ever checking his phone that one night, for she had finally be happy without him and it killed him. But she had been over him, and she had fallen in love again. Last year she had cried herself on New Year's Eve night, now she had surrounded herself with loving, laughing people. Her hand had been encased in a new beginnings. He had been treating her right. Maybe it had been luck or her strength, but she had gotten over him on that glorious night.
