Suit Shopping

It's the evening before Max's celebration party. They had just gotten back from decoration shopping, which would have taken a lot less time if Magnus didn't fight Alec on what color the streamers should be. They stroll into Magnus' loft, or Magnus and Alec's loft now, and set the excessive amount of bags on different surfaces. Some on the couch, the ground, or the coffee table. The multiple colored bags adding a sort of brightness to the room.

Twenty stores. That's how many they had visited, twenty. Alec had no idea there were so many shops that only sold small decorations made entirely out of marble—decorations Magnus bought claiming that it was for Max and it would add a bit of flare.

It wasn't for Max, they both knew that, but he was not wrong about them adding flare.

"So, what are you gonna wear?" Magnus asks, taking one of the bags and sifting through it. He pulls out various small decorations until he finally looks back at Alec—who is frozen on the spot. Magnus had already had his outfit ready, down to the jewelry and the socks. Of course he had, he's Magnus Bane. A man who would not show up to a party if his socks didn't coordinate with his handkerchief.

And then there's Alec. Alec who doesn't own a shade brighter than grey—aside from the green sweater he's wearing now, compliments of Magnus. But, Alec doesn't have a suit. The only one he owns is white, which is only to be worn for mourning. And besides, he can't just wear his regular attire, not for Max. Alec's introducing Magnus to Max in a couple of hours, he has to look, the least bit, decent.

He looks back at Magnus and blinks blankly, "I don't have anything to wear. Oh my god, I don't have anything to wear, Magnus." He quickly makes his way past Magnus and to the bedroom, Immediately he begins shuffling through all the clothing—all the plain black clothing used for hunting demons. He's freaking out, why is he freaking out? Most likely due to the fact that he might have to show up to his little brothers celebration party wearing joggers and a t-shirt. That's not something he'd like to look back on later in life.

"Alexander." Magnus brings him back from his head, turning him around with a hand on his bicep. As Alec turns toward him fully, Magnus cups his face with both hands and looks him deep in the eyes, making Alec focus on him and only him, "It's fine. We'll just go buy one." He pulls him from the bedroom, "Let's go."

Alec pauses, Magnus loses his grip on Alec's arm, pivoting on his heel towards Alec, "Can't you just," Alec pauses, mimicking Magnus' way of conjuring his magic, "do your thing?"

Magnus rolls his eyes, harshly, "I don't look like that." He mumbles, more to himself than to Alec, "Besides, I'm a sucker for suit shopping." He smiles at Alec and pulls him along again, this time his hand slips into Alec's as their fingers intertwine.

There's a slight chill in the Brooklyn air. Obnoxious car horns and people screaming about deals on the curbs ring throughout the streets. They walk hand and hand, small conversations filling in the comfortable silence. Soon, Magnus stops abruptly as Alec keeps walking, being pulled back by Magnus' tight grip. A very expensive suit shop covers Alec's eyes as they hover towards the different types of suits in the window. Alec reminds himself, 'a simple suit will do,' though that's something he should've told Magnus that too.

They walk into the shop, Alec trailing behind slightly as he stares at the brightly color suits at the back section of the store. So much neon—neon yellow, neon green, and neon pink. Alec can't help but wonder what Magnus would look like in one of those. Without a doubt he'd pull it off, of course. Alec smiles as Magnus looks back at him. Then, one of the attendants approaches Magnus.

"Mr. Bane, lovely to see you again. Another party in the works?" He asks with a very thick French accent, his name tag only reads the name of the store. Alec doesn't question it.

"Yes, I need a suit for my boyfriend." Magnus replies, extending a hand out towards Alec—who's picking up a pair of crocodile skinned shoes and examining them. One of his confused expressions takes over his face. He looks passed the shoes and at Magnus, he gives a tilted smile and sets the shoes down, striding to be at Magnus' side, "This is Alexander Lightwood."

The attendant purses his lips and cocks a brow. He then holds a hand out for Alec to shake, which he does, "I've heard so much about you, Mr. Lightwood."

"I've heard nothing about you." Alec replies before thinking about it. Then, he realizes what he actually just said, "Not in a bad way, just that—"

"I don't speak about suits all the time." Magnus interjects, hiding an amused grin. The attendant nods and turns, Magnus gives Alec a look as he follows behind.

Alec's never done this before so he stays behind again, listening to them talk about suits. Who knew there were so many things to take into consideration when buying one. Usually, he'd see one, try it on, and if it just fit him well he'd buy it. But Magnus—Magnus is taking in all aspects. Time, place, what they'll be serving at the party, the weather. All of the things you don't really think about when buying a suit. Then again, this is Magnus he's talking about.

He finds his way to Magnus' side again, staring at him as he listens intently to the attendant talking about the quality of the dark blue suit in his hands. Magnus has this look of determination as he stares at the clothes, running his fingertips over the material. He takes the suit jacket and moves a hand through the sleeve, feeling the inside material. He looks back and forth between the jacket and Alec.

"Try this on." He says finally, setting himself behind Alec. He places the jacket over his shoulder and helps Alec out of his current jacket. Alec then shrugs the suit jacket on, fixing it slightly as Magnus makes his way in front of him. Magnus fixes the lapels and pats it down, he steps back to examine it. Alec gives him an awkward grin and Magnus smiles back as his head tilts, "You should wear suit more often." Magnus winks at him.

He's shaking his head then, "But, I'm not a fan. Are you?" Alec shrugs, Magnus then looks to the attendant, "Bring me something gray, will you? Something that says 'my brother just got his first tattoo and i'm proud of him'" He asks, then helps Alec out of the jacket. Truth is, Alec didn't like it anyways.

As the man disappears in the back, Alec gives Magnus a humored look, "A tattoo?" He asks, Magnus steps toward him, his hands setting themselves on Alec's hips as Alec examines the runes covering his arms, "They hurt twice as much as a tattoo." Alec says, Magnus hums in responses and leans up slightly. Alec takes this hint and kisses him, a hand cupping at Magnus' neck. As they pull away, the attendant comes back with one gray suit.

"This is the only one we have in stock, at the moment. It's sold out everywhere but here in this shop." He says, Magnus' eyes light up with interest. If an item is close to being sold out, Magnus will most definitely walk out with it in hand.

The lapels have a small lace detail atop the dark color, the jacket itself being gray with dark lines creating the small design of diamonds all over it. With a plain grey dress shirt and dark matching pants it screams Alec Lightwood. It's not bright but, it's not just black either. It's the perfect suit for Alec and Magnus knows this. He gives Alec a devious smile and nods at the attendant.

"We'll take it."

Later that night, the celebration is about to begin. As Alec goes to step out of the bedroom, Magnus stops him. Pulling him back and away from the door.

"What's the matter?" Alec asks, noticing the worried look on Magnus' face.

"Something's missing." He says, staring at the suit, fixing and straightening some things here and there. Then it clicks, he leaves to rummage through one of his drawers and comes back with a small bit of fabric in his hands. One that goes with the ascot around Magnus' neck. He shoves it into Alec's suit pocket then fixes it a bit, "We sort of match now." Magnus says, patting the pocket.

Alec's eyes narrow at him, "Are you nervous?" He asks.

"Absolutely." Magnus laughs, not even trying to hide it, "I've met your sister and your very annoying brother who doesn't clean up after himself." Alec laughs at that, "I've met your mother, who hasn't taken the greatest liking to me. But I haven't met your youngest brother."

Alec takes his hand, a small hint of affection takes him a long way, "Max is gonna love you and you're gonna love him. I know it, he's open about so many things and accepts everyone. He doesn't think like my mother." Alec smiles genuinely, getting him a small sigh from Magnus.

They kiss again, soft and slow. Magnus grins into the kiss, "Then let's go, can't have a party without it's hosts." He grips Alec's hands tightly for a moment as they join the party, just as more guests arrived.

That night, Max finally met Magnus—finally met Alec's boyfriend. Max was, to say the least, amazed by Magnus, they hit it off right away. Max almost never left his and Magnus' side the whole night, wanting to know more about Magnus. What his favorite food was, what his favorite book was, if he knew any card tricks, if he'd be around for his birthday, which made Magnus look at Alec and nod softly.

And Alec couldn't help but hope Magnus would be there many years after.
