To My Mother

WHEN I TURNED 18

you told me that i was free to do as i please and after saying that you still reminded me that if i acted up you could still beat me.

WHEN I TURNED 16

you took me to new york for my birthday and i enjoyed that weekend to the fullest, funny to think that 5 months from now i'll be living there, oh my goodness. please try not to miss me too much.

WHEN I TURNED 13

you told me i was turning into a woman, and i didn't quite understand that then, but boy, now i do. all the lessons you taught me back then are stuck in my head like glue.

WHEN I TURNED 10

my life was full of friends and fun and you were always watching over me like an angel of the sun. i know you have a few health deficiencies but you are always the most beautiful in my eyes and i'll never see you differently.

WHEN I TURNED 7

you were always my best friend, i didn't like shopping, i didn't like boys, it was just me, you, and my toys. i miss those days where THAT was my world, just me and my mommy. no war, no bills, no responsibilities to send me running for the hills

WHEN I TURNED 5

you had my sister and you became a mom again. i applaud you for being able to juggle us two. she was just a little baby and i was so confused, but from the moment she was born i knew i was supposed to love her like i love you.

WHEN I TURNED 3

i don't quite know, i was probably just a handful. i know with me being your first born you probably had your hands full. shout out to you for always knowing how to cope. one day when i'm a mom i can only hope to be as great as you are.

mom, you honestly are a shining star.

WHEN I TURNED 1

i probably said my first word and i really hope it was mom, because even to this day its the only name i'll call on. so, when things are falling apart, always remember you have the biggest piece of my heart.

WHEN I WAS BORN

you gave birth to greatness. you've done far too good of a job raising me to let you down, and if i can only promise you one thing; i promise i'm gonna make you proud.

Happy Mother's Day
