Seas & Trees

You never really notice until it's over

how insignificant all this was

as i ride by the ocean

overlooking it like a god from the bridge

you notice how small you really are

how small we really were

that what we had

didn't even equate to a drop in the sea

and just like the ocean

with that drop or not it wouldn't change.

it almost meant nothing

and you don't notice in the moment

but once that drop of water,

that was you, is removed

it's hardly missed.

as i walk through this park

i stand beside the biggest tree

and i wonder

how long has it been here

100 years? 200?

i wonder how many storms it has weathered

how many times it never thought they would never end, but they did

i wonder what that tree would think of me

getting upset over losing one of my leaves
