breaking into graveyards
you broke into a graveyard
and you didn't know. slip
under imposing gates with
spear tips, approach each
tomb as carefully as you can.
gingerly step over each mound
of earth, try not to uncover a
rotting corpse, endure the
pungent smell of fear, dodge all
the insects that make their home
in decay. call someone by their
name and you'll hex them. polish
the tombstones, fill in the names
of the deceased, with golden paint.
visit them, imagine their story,
chronicle life before six feet under.
if you come across a tombstone
with your name, tear it down.
choose to be a millipede, make
your home in this decaying place.
bring life to the grass, make flowers
bloom again. you can make my
heart a brand new graveyard again.
