Butterflies and the story of Evi (the well wish)
It was one week before Evilyns first birthday and already the little one was crawling. She was reaching all the growths milestones that human babies reach. Ella sort of expected more but I think that's because she was paying more attention. When Ella thought about it she never really remembered at what month in the first year the boy's crawled or walked. Ella was very happy with what Evi was accomplishing already that she really just didn't want to miss a thing.
One evening when it was time for the kids to go to bed, Evilyn was a bit more fussy than usual. Ella just assumed it was teething and gave her a soothing fennel tea. However that would not seem to suffice. The poor girl just cried and cried and Ella just didn't know what to do. So she did the only thing she thought she could do and rocked the babe in her arms and sang her a lullaby. After a while the babe calmed down and find finally dozed off. Ella put her in her crib and went to bed herself.
The morning came quickly almost to quickly and it felt like just as Ella had fallen asleep it was time to wake up and get kids and a husband ready for the day. Ella went to check on Evi and when she bent over the crib she gasped, "oh my goodness look at that!" Evilyn had grown wings just like a butterfly. Just like the wings Ella had seen in the orb. They were a beautiful blue and golden yellow. They opened and closed it was almost as if Evi was trying them out. She would look to one side of them and they would open and than to the other side, then they would close. "Oh my goodness what are we go to do about those wings". Evi smiled and they opened up. Ella went to pick her up out of the crib and they closed again.
They weren't really that big; open they spanned the length of her shoulders to the middle of her back. Closed they could easily be hidden under a cape or blouse. That's what she would have to do in a week for her birthday. No one would notice and if they did she would hope that they would just keep it to themselves.
Isaac noticed the babies wings and panicked; " what if she flies and gets herself hurt?" Ella hadn't thought about that but replied,"I guess I shall have to make my wish sooner than later, hope a star falls tonight." Isaac did not look encouraged at all by her comment. "How do you know if they are going to take you seriously or even if they have heard your wish?" Ella said the old man said she would know. Isaac still didn't look convinced, he was more worried now about what the consequences of taking in this child were really going to be.
The day went by and night time came and the sky was filled with stars but none of them looked like good wishing stars. Ella tucked all the kids into bed including Evi and so far it didn't seem like she was able to fly.
Ella was in bed and about to dose off when all of the sudden a flashing light hurled past her window. Almost like someone had lit a whole lot of candles at once. She rushed to her window hoping it was a wishing star. It was, and she made a wish. She wished someone could give her more answers about her babe so she could help her as she grew into a woman. She wished to be able to help her babe understand some of the things she may go through as she grows. She watched the light from her window as it dimmed out of view then went to bed.
Ella woke up in what she thought was the next morning but not in her own bed. She felt a bit out of sorts like she was drugged. It was very bright in the room and it was shaped like a sphere and when she finally got her bearings she realized she was in a bubble and it was in the sky. She looked down at her feet and realized how high she was and nearly had a heart a tack.
The bubble was moving but she wasn't sure where. She wondered if this was a dream or if she was really awake. After about a minute of floating above the clouds the bubble stopped and she didn't know what to do. Then she saw a flicker of light flutter around her and poof! There was a weird fat little man with pointy ears and feathery hair he had no wings and only a green leafy looking loin cloth like skirt covering his lower waist and boy parts. He didn't say anything he just pointed his finger and pop! Went the bubble and Ella screamed since she couldn't fly and she thought for sure she would fall to her death.
The man smiled and said, "fallow me please" in a very polite voice. So Ella fallowed him through the clouds. She thought for sure this was a dream since she hadn't fallen to her death. He took her to a giant castle like structure literally made of clouds. White fluffy clouds that looked as soft and warm like cotton.
They stopped at the gates and the little man whistled as loud as he could. Then he motioned her to move back. The gate then began to come down and open up and they proceeded to go inside the walls of what she assumed it was a castle.
Everywhere Ella looked it was white fluffy clouds. Houses made out of white fluffy clouds, a little village made out of white fluffy clouds. It was beautiful she had never seen anything like it. She proceeded to follow the fat little man to the castle part of the kingdom.
They waited at the door of the castle and the little man knocked fearlessly on the door. It opened and they went insides where the would find a king and queen sitting on there thrones. These individuals were obviously Fae. The queen was beautiful and looked like autumn shrouded in beautiful fall colors. Her king was definitely representing the element of fire with reds and oranges his hair was even red. There was even a warm glow around him. It was like standing in a warm summer day.
The man lead Ella in front of the court and proceeded to introduce her. Ella bowed before them and the king and queen acknowledged her politely.
Ella had a feeling this was not a dream and she was going to be getting the answers she wished for.
