The Lohanas as Rajputs - Rajput Etymology
Rajput ( Rajputra ) ... Colonel James Todd - ‘Rajpoot’
Rajputs are a community of people who were mainly rulers and warriors by inheritance. The word Rajput literally means ‘ Son of a King’ as Rajput is derived from two Sanskrit words ‘Raj’ meaning Ruler or Kingdom and ‘Putra’ meaning son.
There are the modern Rajput communities i.e. Bhatti, Rathore, Chouhan e.t.c. (Who are also Kshatriyas) , however the word ‘ Kshatriya’ is sometimes also interchanged with the word ‘Rajput’, as being a Kshatriya means being the son of a King (Which put into words in Sanskrit means ‘Rajputra’ a.k.a. Rajput) and having the occupation as a Prince, King or Ruler and Warrior.
So not all Kshatriyas belong to the modern community of Rajputs but other Kshatriya castes can be refered to as Rajputs as the two words ‘Kshatriya’ and ‘Rajput’ are interchangeable.
When the historian of India - Colonel James Tod described the Lohanas as being formerly Rajpoots (Rajputs) ... therefore could have had two meanings to it (since the word Rajput has two etymologies)
1. Formerly being Part of the modern Rajput community i.e. Bhatti, Rathore, Chouhan e.t.c (who are also Kshatriyas)
Or
2. Simply , formerly being Kshatriyas
Conclusion:
Although whether regarded as formerly part of the modern Rajput community (who are also Kshatriyas) or whether regarded as just formerly being simply Kshatriyas both meanings have the same origin of the Lohanas as being formerly Kshatriya as our two meanings of being ‘formerly Rajputs’ implies this.
