All Hail Cinderella (Poem)

Clock strikes midnight

Time to run

Bringing forth an end to my fun

The ladies are so angry

And filled with such envy

The venom in their gaze is scorching

I’m tripping over my trailing dress

Glass heels tearing the delicate fabric

One slips off

A small price to pay

For my quick escape

And yet it was my worst mistake

What should happen if I were discovered?

So, quickly home I lumbered

If home is what you’d call it

My chores are finished

And yet she despises me so

That I must sleep without my throw

It’s freezing here

The tallest tower

And sleep is not within my power

So instead I scheme

And I daydream

One day I’ll make them all regret

That they treated me with such neglect

I’ll perch their heads upon the walls

Drawn and quartered, gruesome for all

The mothers will hide their children in fear

And men will tremble when I near

Oh yes to be the queen

I could be so very mean

And so my plan was set

And when the duke came asking

He was quickly met

I ran forth in my dreadful maid’s gown

And placed my foot down, down, and down

Into the glass slipper of my facade

And then everyone was aware

That it was I who captured the prince

And it was I who would soon be his

All hail Cinderella
