Don't Be A Failure
At the end of every day, you should be able to sit back and recall something new that you have learned during the course of your day. Years ago, I had a gentleman tell me that “any day that you fail to learn something new is a failure”. Stop and think about that for a moment, and then think about yesterday, and ask yourself; did I learn anything new before I laid my head down to rest last night?
Now, for the most part, I’m not talking about earthshattering, cure for every disease known to man, type of learning. What I am seeking to get each of us thinking about is those little things and abilities that make your life and make the lives of everyone around you better every day. Because even in those baby steps of learning, it is so very important to realize that sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.
Things and abilities that you learn today will benefit you for your entire life. With that in mind, why would you ever want to come to the close of a day without having obtained some kind of new morsel of new knowledge? Think back for a moment and try to recall the excitement you experienced as a small child when you finally learned to actually take the letters of the alphabet and form them into words. If you were like me, you conldn’t wait to get home and share the awesomeness of a point that changed your life forever.
Listen to what I’m saying right here; every day can be just as amazing, if you will make a commitment to learn something new from the minute your feet hit the floor until the moment you lay down to rest at days end. Whether it is a new ability that helps you do your job better, which greatly improves your career prospects, or something that enables you to grow mentally, make the commitment today to become a lifetime learner.
Join with me on this day, tell the world that we will not be a failure, and make yourself a promise to learn something new today and every day hereafter. I can promise you that your future self will forever be grateful that you made such a decision. Let me know that you are a committed learner as well, so we can all hold each other accountable to this commitment.
