“What were you thinking,” He snarled, his voice raising with every word. Tears pricked in my eyes, but at this point I didn’t care.
“Me? What were you thinking? You had no right to stop me from fighting!” His face darkened.
“I was trying to keep you alive! That place is a death wish and you know it!” We were both screaming, and I briefly wondered if there would be complaints in the morning.
“Why? Who cares if I die! Everyone who loves me is already dead anyway!” It ended in a miserable screech as my tears flowed freely.
“The only person I have left to fight for is myself, and I’ve given up on her,” I cried. His face softened barely, so much so I almost didn’t notice, and he stood quietly for a moment.
“Stop staring and just give me an honest answer, goddammit! Why would you stop me?” I had rekindled some of my anger, but it wasn’t as strong as before.
He stepped closer to me and a familiar scent clouded my senses. Pine, salt, and citrus. He reached forward and gently cupped my face, tilting me toward him. Our breath mingled and my body went slack, my pulse racing from both adrenaline and anticipation.
“Because I love you,” He whispered. “I’ve always loved you.” Then, he kissed me, and my world collapsed in on itself. I tried to get it into my head to rebel, but quickly gave up the notion and let him in.
His hands drifted down from their spot on my chin, slowly grazing my sides, all the way to my waist. He pulled me even closer than before.
My own hands began to roam until they ended up in his hair. It was soft and full of messy curls from the day’s adventure, one I’d make him tell me later.
Later, not now, when his lips had slowly crept down and were now nipping at the spot between my neck and shoulder. It was enough to make a moan escape me, and he immediately became more intense, his hands gliding up and down my body as his lips did the same and we gradually moved backwards towards what I assumed was the bed.
