It's Easy To Tear Down
Crashing Down
I sat in my car in the parking lot at the park. I came to watch the ducks, but next to the park a crane was smashing a building. There was a claws on the end of the arm and the operator used it to push the roof and walls in then pick up the rubble and put it in a dump truck. I was fascinated. As I watched, it occurred to me that it probably took a couple months to build this building but now it is being demolished in a day.
The Rub
That's the rub, isn't it? You can swing the wrecking ball and detonate the explosives and watch the whole thing crumble in a short time. It's building that takes time and work.
What's true about buildings is also true about people. It's easy to slip into the habit of pointing out flaws. Lots of people point out what wrong with the world and where people have gone wrong. What we need is people who will talk about solutions.
Instead of criticizing people
Why We Build
Building leads to human flourishing.
Sometimes we need to clear away the old in order to build something new. But our focus should always be on building or rebuilding.
We were made to build
Let's Build
So, whether people or buildings, we can tear down quickly and easily, but the lasting benefit comes from building things.
