I'm Not Here To Be Average; I'm Here To Be Awesome

Good enough is dying, let me phrase that another way, good enough is never good enough. Recently I came across an interesting statistic that showed that the average S&P 500 company would only be in business for only eighteen years. The reason is that too many companies are willing to accept mediocre performance, which repeatedly results in poor customer service, which ultimately brings about the demise of the company.

My challenge to each of you today is to resist mediocrity and strive to be awesome, hence the title to this article. I dare you to repeat to yourself these eleven words every morning as you make your way to work, “I’m not here to be average; I’m here to be awesome”! Mentally if each member of a team will make that determination, the odds of failure greatly diminish and all will feel the benefits of success.

The combined knowledge of a team will also further the chances of success. However, a positive, committed mindset will number one, make you more committed to attaining the needed knowledge, and will ultimately allow you and the team to overcome any obstacle that may arise to hinder success. It’s not always about how much you know, but how determined you and the entire team are to be successful.

Albert Einstein, one of the greatest minds of the twentieth century said this: “I am not more gifted than the average human being. If you know anything about history, you would know that is so--what hard times I had in studying and the fact that I do not have a memory like some other people do… I am just more curious than the average person and I will not give up on a problem until I have found the proper solution.”

Today, are you willing to put off mediocrity and accept the challenge to be awesome in everything you do? Make today the beginning of a new commitment to excellence and exceptional customer service.
