The "Wisdom" Of Man
It seems ever apparent to me that the wisdom of man is foolishness. It's not just foolishness to God, it's just foolishness plain and simple. We think we are so smart. We have these great ideas that end up costing more than they make or even save. We write books and hold conferences to talk about how much smarter we are than "those other guys" whoever those "other guys" are. It may be a business thing or even church groups, but we always think we know more and we are the ones who are right. There is such a thing as absolute truth, but it comes from the word of God not the mind or the heart of man. He has really made Himself pretty plain in there about how we are to live, behave, and treat others, but we think we have to read between the lines or contextualize everything according to our opinions and those are generally based on personal preference instead of solid truth. What happens then, is we have heated arguments with people who disagree with us and end up having divisions and grudges when we should be working together to help people come to Christ. What's worse is we sometimes don't even know the people we disagree with, and instead of just letting it go, we tweet about it or post our opinions on Facebook and name names, or worse still we call each other names. Unfortunately, that sounds more like the world than "the church". It's no wonder the world thinks very little of us. We think we know who's going to Heaven and whose not and that's all judged by what we think we know about right and wrong and ultimately based on our own arbitrary set of rules and degrees we put on sin. We have some sins that are abhorrent to us and rightly so, but there are others we don't think are all that bad, mostly because they aren't illegal and so even though it is sin, it has become acceptable. Well, guess what, all sin is abhorrent to God. That's why He told us to be Holy because He is Holy. The problem with that is we preoccupy ourselves with pointing out everybody else's unholiness and overlook our own. For instance, if I think you are doing something wrong, and you may be, calling you an idiot or stupid, doesn't really help and is sin on my part so we're really not making any progress now are we? We don't even limit ourselves to religious beliefs that we base on our interpretation of scripture or rules of our chosen religion or denomination. We don't limit our fighting and arguing to right or wrong, moral or immoral behavior. We have stooped so low as to argue, fight, split fellowship, and even demonize others on the basis of worship style. So, really? We are going to fight over how we worship God? I'm sure He's just really proud of us over that. I have said over and over again that I am a simple man. I try not to complicate things that are meant to be simple. Paul said that the only gospel is Jesus, crucified on the cross, buried in a tomb, and risen from the dead, all of which were fulfillment of scriptural prophesies from ages before. That's it. No matter what we try to add to it, it doesn't work. It's all Jesus, all the time. It is always all about Him and never about us. Somehow we've gotten that completely backwards, and, sadly enough, many of us seem to be okay with that. I know I'm preaching to myself just as much if not more than anyone else but I'm not gonna be okay with that. I'm gonna trust God, worship Him, live like Christ as best I can today and worry about tomorrow then not today. Wait, I think there's something in the Bible about that. Jesus said, "A new commandment I give you, that you love one another. In the same way I love you, you should love one another. By this, everyone will know you are really My disciples, if you love one another." Something tells me that would work if we would try it.
