You Don’t Need A New Year To Make A Change, All You Need Is A Monday

Most of us either can be or know someone who is a Monday morning quarterback, always criticizing what has happened in the previous week. How many times have you been asked, or have asked someone on a Monday, how they are and you get a response something like; well I’m ok for a Monday? How many times have you dreaded Monday because it is the beginning of a new workweek?

The so-called Monday morning blues are something that many of us have heard our entire lives and the result is that a large part of this nation’s work force uses it as an excuse for being unproductive, and a reason for laziness and sloppiness. Growing up I often heard the phrase “never buy a car built on Monday”, and the justification was that it would be junk because of the lack of attention on a Monday.

I’m convinced that the only reason for the Monday morning blues is a lack of planning. If we will approach Monday, knowing what it is we wish to accomplish, our attitude towards the new week will be entirely different. We should greet the beginning of every week and for that manner every day as a new opportunity to do great things. Now, that is not to say that we should not ever mention the things that need attention and correction, those are extremely important, and if we are totally focused, should be addressed at the moment of occurrence.

Most of us, even if it is for a few minutes, pause on the first day of the year to think about the year ahead and what we wish to accomplish. Imagine if we looked at the beginning of every week with the same anticipation and focus. How much more could we accomplish if we each greeted Mondays with a smile and the determination to not let anything get in the way of our personal and professional success?

It has been said that, “One person can change the world”, imagine greeting every week and every day with a new zeal to make a difference right where you are. I can promise you this if you will greet every day with a new focus and renewed determination to succeed, then absent a true personal tragedy, every day will be a good day, no matter what else may be happening in your life. Join with me, smile, and make this Monday, and this week the best ever!
