DAMIAN GARSIDE

NO ONE SHOULD WAKE FROM

Oh my

young friend (barely

into your third century)

I see

that you have become

too addicted to the narcotic

of smoke and mirror

do not see

between

your utopian Disney

dream and the

hard 1929 history of

your reality: little

notes of identity

pinned to your

warriors slaughtered

by your

own worst enemy

at Cold (not Pearl) Harbor

a rift rears up

the ground tears away

a new Grand Canyon where

the ground is torn away

along the Pacific coast

fault-line

and now there must be violence to

preserve, protect the dream

this is

an enchantment

no one should wake from.
