“Some people think that the Mad Mage of Undermountain is responsible for the attacks on our mighty city.
“Some people are wrong. I was there, my friends. I was there when the Grey Guardians fought their way to the center of Halaster Blackcloak’s power...
I was there when they took his head. But a mage as old and terrible as Halaster does not leave a world untouched in their passing.
“He left a wound upon the world, the Magics he had tied to himself. I’m no wizard, my friend, but the Arcane among my companions called it a Knot.
“And without its master...the Knot went mad. All that terrible magic crashed forth from the depths and set upon the city. The monsters tied to Undermountain by the Mad Mage were cast by this magic into the city, and the brave soldiers and watch folk of the city were hard pressed to defend it.
“As for the Knot? No one was there to fight it...
Except the Grey Guardians.
“Casters of mighty magic, a honorable and wise Paladin, a lethal and untouchable archer, a brave and mysterious youth....
And one terrified Bard.
“I’m no hero. But standing beside them that day, I felt like one. The Knot struck us hard, with power unseen even in our mighty adventure to the Deeps.
“I tried to buy us time, here and there, by twisting the Weave to hide the city from its gaze by casting it briefly from our reality. The spells and weapons of the Guardians tore at it every time it reappeared, and it struck back at us with equal fury.
“In the end, it was the youth, hardly more than a child, whose magical wrath struck to the heart and shattered the knot forever.
“Halaster is dead. His magic is shattered. The battle was terrible but Undermountain will never threaten you again .
“And the Grey Guardians will always protect you.
