Chapter 1-Hi

"Hi. My name is Katima Williams." I type on to the chat room. I heard my mom come in downstairs. I signed off and walked downstairs. "Hi mom." "Hey. Can you go get mail honey?" "Sure." I walk out the front door to mailbox. As I open the mailbox, I heard a whisper. "Katima." I turned around but no one was where. No one was outside. I slowly continue to open the mailbox thinking it would happen again. It didn't. I grabbed the mail and closed the mailbox. As I walked back I looked through the mail. "Bills, bills, magazine, pay checks,…packet?" I stopped walking and looked at the packet. It was an odd grey colour. My name was printed on the front and was sent from an unfamiliar address. It was probably for one of my parents. I continued walking and opened the door inside and plopped the mail on the table. "Thank you sweetie!" She said as I was walking up the stairs. "Not a problem."

I signed back into the chat room. "So, I guess we'll continue tomorrow then?" "Yeah. Night." And signed off. I laid back in my bed wondering what that packet was. What my odd dreams meant. I waited till the next day to find out.

The next day, my dad was home and we were going to go get a birthday present for my mom. I got in the passenger seat and we went off driving to the store getting a special present. It cost some of my emergency funds but, birthdays are priceless. After we bought the present, we got some pretzels and headed back to the car. About 10 minutes into the ride home, I turned up the radio and our favourite song came on. We smiled at each other and started singing. "Carry on my wayward son. They'll be peace when you are down. Lay your weary head to rest. Don't you cry no more." My dad was laughing and I was too. "Dad, do you think she'll like it?" "Of course she will. You know, we were best friends in high schoo…" "oh look the chorus is back!" I heard this story a thousand times. We continued singing. "Carry on my Wayward son! They'll be peace when you are done! Lay your weary head to rest! Don't you cry no more no!" We laughed some more. "Dad watch out!" I screamed as I say the car ran the stop sign on a two lane intersection in the woods. I heard my dad grunting. Feeling his arms around me as we rolled down the hill, hitting trees and watching my life flash before my eyes. My first day of school, my mom making cakes with me, my seventh birthday, the strange packet. My head hit the window and I was brought back to reality. We stopped spinning. I picked up my phone and called my mom. "Hey honey." "Help." I said. And everything went black.

I heard beeping. And I saw my mom sitting beside me. "Mom?" "Oh my god. Honey are you okay? I was so worried. The doctors said that you would've been in a coma." "W-W-Where's Dad?" I said quietly. She was silent. "Mom?" I said. "Where's Dad?" "Honey. Your father tried. He tried to protect you as much as he could. But, he, he didn't make it." "Where's dad?!" I said as I tried to get out of bed. "Honey stay in bed. You need to rest." "I can't rest until I see dad." When I unveiled the covers, my legs were full of cuts and stitches. I put my feet on the ground and tried to stand. I was doing it for about 3 seconds but then I collapsed. My mom caught me and put me in a wheelchair. "Honey, you can't walk for a day. The glass and pressure from the air bag caused very deep cuts. You lost a lot of blood." "Oh." I said. My mom pushed me to where dad was down the hall. When we entered his room, he was still unconscious. "Dad?" I said weeping. "He's gonna wake up right?" I say in a hopeful voice. My mom shook her head. She pushed me closer to him and left. The blood covering his face, cuts everywhere. I opened his left eyelid so I could see his eye one last time. "Carry on my wayward son." I sung softly in his ear. "They'll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest…" I started crying as I laid my head on his chest. I was thinking about the car ride. Him and I singing our song. And all of the times we were happy. My eyes flooding with tears. Hearing what sounded like my dad's voice say, "Don't you cry no more." And feeling a hand place itself on my head as I heard the machine flatline. My mom and some doctors came in. My mom pulled me away as I held on, ripping as piece of fabric away from his shirt. Screaming at the top of my lungs. "Dad! Don't leave me! Take me back! Take me back!" I was back in my room but I strangled against the nurses as my heartbeat increased. "Take me back!" Another nurse came in with a mask. "No!" I said as the mask was placed on my head and I fell asleep. "Take me…ba-"

I enter a world where my dad is still alive. With us singing our song and all of the happy moments we had. My dad and I had the strongest bond that a father and daughter could have. I heard our song play as I went through the memories I had with my dad. "Carry on my wayward son, they'll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest. Don't you cry no more."

Somehow, I woke up standing beside his body. His cut, stitched up body. Looked almost like Frankenstein's monster. I touched his chest, reaching to hug him. But he woke up. "Dad!" He just looked around the room. "Dad! I'm here! I'm right here!" He didn't look at me. He got off of the bed. "Dad! I'm right in front of you da-!" He walked through me. How could he walk through me? Unless, I'm…no. I can't be. He died mom said. Mom. He walked out of the room, into mine. "Do you think she'll-" "I don't know." Said my dad. "Is it because she's half." "Possibly. We need to get out of here before anyone notices." And they left. I followed them. "Until I what?!" I yelled. They went into the car. "What's gonna happen!" I yelled. I stood in front of the car. It's not like they could kill me again if I'm already dead. Right? I heard the engine. "Please, I know one of you can hear me!" The car charged forward.

"Ow." I woke up somewhere dark. Cold. I saw a small opening. I hit the top more. It started to open. Harder and harder it slowly opened. Dirt started to seep in as I slowly crawled out. Feeling the light and heat touch my face. *****

I slowly open the packet hoping that it wasn't something bad. Nope. It was just a normal piece of paper. I started reading it. 'Dear Katima Williams, we regret to inform that you will be leaving as soon as you finish this letter. You won't have time to say goodbye. And you have reached the end of the letter. Signed, the Fortune and Midgely school for frequencies.' "What?" I said as mysterious lights shot around me and everything went black.

When I started feeling conscious again, I see a girl sitting on a bed with a book. "Hey your up. Looks like we're roommates." She said. "What? Where am I?" "They'll tell you that at orientation. I'm Aria by the way." She said walking beside me and reaching her hand out. "Katima." I say as I grab her hand and she pulls me up off the wood floor. "Wait. Katima? As in Katima Williams?" She said backing up and making a sword appear in her hands. "Yeah," I said with my hands up with Aria pointing the sword at my neck. "That's my name. Is there problem because I haven't done anything yet but go unconscious from landing on a wood floor in who knows where." "It's not what you have done. It's what you will do." She said making a lunge at my heart. I ducked and grabbed her wrist making her drop the sword. "How did I do that?" I said surprised. "How did you do that?" I said pointing to the sword on the ground. "You don't know do you." Said Aria. I shook my head. She pushed me into the other bed and grabbed her sword off the floor just to point it at my neck. "I'm telling you the truth! I don't know! I don't know where I am or what's going on! So please, don't kill me." "You really don't know." said Aria as she lowered her sword. I shook my head. "I'm so sorry. I probably looked like a psychopath." "A little." I get off of the floor. "Start over?" she said. "Yeah." "I'm Aria." "I'm Katima. So when's Orientation?" "A few minutes. We should go now. The lunch room's this way." I followed her.

When we entered the lunchroom, I was in awe. I could see the sky around us and the rock ground. I couldn't tell if this was real or a dream. If it was, I don't wanna wake up. "Is this real?!" I asked Aria. "It's bigger on the inside." "Cool." We sat down. I looked around and noticed that Aria and I are the only normal looking ones here. I have brown hair hanging down while a girl sitting about 3 seats away had pink ombré blue hair, which was really curly, tied up in to a bun.
