CHRISTMAS POEM

Christmas Poem (for Maepelo)

I write

to redeem the day

this Christmas of

my aloneness spent

longing for treasured

friendships, cherished

company

and despite myself I

end up showing selfishness

being as much a Christ antithesis

as I could unfortunately manage

Oh this town has

stripped me of

so many things

and now, at last, with

supreme cheek, comes

for my soul

which it would roast somewhat

before its time

so I write now

since writing is

the only redemption

I now know

the loneliness inside

a loneliness, where all

I have is

a plethora of voices

and the hope, the

prayer

for an ear to listen.

I write to redeem the day.
