What I Learned When My Kids Sang The Wrong Words
A couple of nights ago on the way home my wife and I heard from the back of the van, "Tori taught us new song."
So they sang it for us:
"I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath,
I used to rock the boat and make a mess,
So I sit quietly,
Agreepy-iately."
"You said it wrong, it's 'A-greepy-IALLY.'"
"No, it's not! It's 'a greepy eye at LEE!'"
"Nuh-uh, it's 'a greepy-ialy.'"
"Stop all of you," my wife said, "none of those are word."
Then she pulled out her phone. A minute later she was laughing uncontrollably. Can you guess why? Have you heard the real words to this Katy Perry song? That's right, "agree politely!" Oh, the irony.
Of course I was sitting there with a smirk on my face, glad to know that I am not so foolish as to argue about something I don't know anything about. (Nervous laugh) Seriously though, if there is one thing an election cycle shows it's that we are all too willing to form opinions with little or no information and hold tightly to those opinions! There is a certain amount of foolishness in human nature and the less we know the more stubbornly we know it. I guess I'm not that different from my kids after all.
