The moon shined brightly, like every night. Princess Luna was always doing her job well. Phantom Moon looked up at the orb that lit the night sky. It was perfectly round, and it shined so bright you could see quite the distance with out it being obscured with darkness. Yes, Luna was always doing her job well. Phantom scoffed. “Luna...” she mumbled. She never liked Luna, although she was her mother. No, Luna wasn't her mom, Nightmare Moon was. Luna was just the happy face for her to wear. She is the other half to Nightmare moon, and although many Ponies find her scary, Luna is the weak side. Phantom shook her head, as much as she loved the moon, it brought out her anger and confusion. With that she swiftly turned around and went back into her castle.

Miles away, Luna sat in her castle doing her nightly duties while Princess Celestia slept. She too would find herself lost in thought. Nightmare Moon would sometimes talk to her through thoughts at night. It was the only time she could. Nightmare constantly reminded her of her daughter, but Luna would shake it off. Princess Phantom Moon wasn't her daughter. It was Nightmare Moon's, her other half, her artificial self. No one else knew about it, no one but her, Phantom, Phantom's sister Asteria, and Queen Chrysalis. Luna became irritated. Years ago, in the form of Nightmare Moon, Luna went to Chrysalis. Nightmare wanted an alliance, much to Luna's dismay, and thought that the queen of Changleings would be perfect. They ended up being so similar it should of worked, but they ended up butting heads to often. Instead, using magic, they made 2 children. Nightmare left them with Chrysalis. Then she was sent to the moon and Chrysalis was forced to raise them. Luna was still haunted by this. After hours of torn thoughts like every night, she pushed them to the side, and steadily continued her work.

A week or so went by Phantom Moon was in her house, a Castle, Doing her daily training. Although she wasn't the oldest, Chrysalis trained her more. She was more than just Chyrsalis' daughter, she was the heir to her throne. The Queen wanted her heir to be more than ready to take the throne. The only thing was, Phantom wasn't serious. She liked to play tricks and mess around but not do anything as scary or evil as Chrysalis herself. The only thing she could find to make Phantom serious was talking about Nightmare Moon and Princess Luna. Phantom seemed to have this confused hatred towards Luna. Chrysalis wanted to find a way to manipulate it, but there was no real way to do that, or at least not one she had discovered.

“Alright Girls,” Chrysalis Instructed,” Recite your house, your goal, and your enemy, again.”

Phantom sighed. This was so boring, the same thing everyday.

Asteria began,” I am Countess Asteria, Daughter of the Queen of Changelings, Chrysalis. And the Daughter of Nightmare Moon, Ruler of the Moon Kingdom. I will become the next ruler of the moon, and destroy my enemies of Equestria and Canterlot.”

“Very well said, dear Asteria,” Chrysalis encouraged her.

Phantom sighed to herself again. She was tired of doing this. Everyday they trained, there was no one else to hang out or play with in this Kingdom.

“Phantom, begin,” Chrysalis instructed again.

“I, Phantom Moon, am the daughter of Queen Chrysalis, High ruler of the Changeling Kingdom,” Phantom began. She always put her own sense of enthusiasm into it,” and the Daughter of Nightmare Moon, true ruler of the Moon Kingdom. I will inherit the Changeling Kingdom, and rule beside my sister. Our Alliance will destroy the enemies of Canterlot and those who appose us.”

“Very, Very well said,” Chrysalis began,” But try to shorten it, we aren't giving a speech.”

Phantom put her head down, mother was never pleased with her.

Right before Chrysalis could say more, a changeling officer entered the room.

“Queen Chrysalis, emergency, you need to see this,” he said seriously. The Queen nodded her head, and began to go with him. “ You two are dismissed,” she said to the sisters, before she left.

Phantom continued walking along the Castle wall. The Castle was made of a dark brick, and it seemed to be decaying. A green moss with an unnatural green glow grew in between the bricks. It was kind of slippery and Phantom had been told time and time again not to walk on the wall. If she fell, she could get hurt. She always laughed at it, she had wings, and although they weren't as strong as pegasus wings they would be strong enough to catch her if she fell. She didn't pay much attention to where she was walking though, a large gap was a few steps away. She looked up right before she took a step into the gorge. She looked down. The Gorge formed miles away, and because of all the decay in the kingdom it continued to grow. Over several years it finally grew large enough to reach the castle, taking out the wall. As she looked down she could see the molten lava the flowed deep deep in the gorge. She sighed and turned around. She really hated this place, she dreamed of somewhere, anywhere, else. A craving for freedom swelled in her.

“Phantom! Phantom get down from there,” a voice yelled.

Phantom looked for the the voice. She finally spotted her sister, and she looked distressed. Phantom jumped carefully down and used her wings to support the descent.

“What do you want,” Phantom said with an irritated voice.

“Its the Queen, there... there is something happening!” She said in a panic.

“What!?!?” Phantom said, now panicked also. And they both ran to the castle room where Chrysalis was sitting.

Far away Luna, Celestia, and the royal guards were in council. Recently, a Changeling spy, working for the Beautiful Queen of the Sun, appeared. He told her troubling news, and the council was deciding what would happen.

“Luna, how could you not tell me,” She scolded.

“I, I just didn't think it would become anything... It was Nightmare Moon not me..” Luna pleaded to her sister. Celestia shook her head, this was too much to handle. “The children are getting older, being in Chrysalis' custody could only corrupt them faster, if they aren't already,” Celestia reasoned, “ The only acts left are to either end them now, or take them from her custody.”

“By all means, take them from her!” Luna panicked,”There is no need to be rash!” Luna didn't know why she was so eager to protect the children she had pushed to the back of her thoughts for so long. But something told her it was the right thing to do. Would Celestia really off them so hastily?

Celestia stared at her sister. She didn't understand why Luna would want to protect them, they ruined the image of her. She shook the thoughts off.

“Luna dear, if I save them, they will be your responsibility. You wil lhave no choice but to take care of them,” she said,” If they can't become good, then I will have no choice but too..”

“I can take care of them!” Luna cut in. She couldn't believe se was saying these things. It wasn't like her.

Celestia was just as surprised as her sister. She couldn't quite grasp why she wanted to protect them either, but she accepted it,”Very well dear sister. Guards, who heard her, arrange a surprise attack. Today we save them.”

Then she turned to two other Guards and said,”I want one of you to send word to Twilight and her husband, I want her here, Soon. As for the other, deliver a message to Cadance and Shining Armor, they may want to come as well.” And with that she turned and walked to her chamber.

Phantom Moon wasn't prepared for what happened next, in fact no one in Chrysalis' Kingdom was. Phantom had walked away from her sister and mother when she heard that a rogue had sent work to Canterlot about Chrysalis' two secret children. She didn't know what irritated her more, the fact that Chrysalis had kept them a secret all this time, or that now the world knew of her and instantly would hate her. Both sounded bad to her.

“No matter what I do, I just can't win... Can I?” she sighed to herself, “ I guess I should go apologize for running off.”

She turned around ready to return to the castle interior when she saw an army entering the Kingdom. Pegasi flew don from the green clouded sky, and Unicorns and Land ponies marched in. A confused, horrified look reached across her face. She stood like a statue as they approached the castle, as they approached her. She didn't snap out of it until she heard screams from the castle.

“Asteria!,” She yelled, turning to run toward the castle. Her sister was in trouble, she wasn't going to hesitate to save her either. She charged into the castle doors nearly breaking them off their rusty hinges. Everyone turned to look at her. Chrysalis was trapped by several unicorns who held her in a magic proof bubble. She angrily screamed to be released, but the bubble was to thick and no one could understand her. Asteria was being tied, she tried to escape but her hooves were bound and she could release herself.

Phantom cursed under her breath, anger welled up inside her. Without thinking she charged at the royal guards. Taking a few dozen out each time she charge, she was beginning to win. Until the leader of them came in. He organized his men again, and this time they all ganged up on her. She was able to fend them off for a good time, but after 15 minutes, she couldn't take them all. More and more guards seemed to flow into the castle doors, and eventually she was defeated.

Twilight and her friends hardly knew what to expect when they entered Canterlot. It had been years since they had been there, and so much could change in that time. When they walked in to town they were shocked to see, nothing had changed. Twilight had brought her children and husband. She looked up at Shining Armor, she still seemed to be amazed that she got married to him. For a long time romance was foreign to her. It wasn't until she went through the portal that she met him, and he wasn't quite him there. Nonetheless he continued to flirt with her until she finally gave in. After years of dating they got married. Yes, so much had changed. She had two children, Terrence and Twyla. Terrence was older than Twyla, and he looked so much like his dad. Twyla was more like Twighlight in personality though. She smiled at her family.

As she entered the Palace she ran into Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbowdash, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie. Rarity was dating spike, although no family had come yet, and Fluttershy was happily married to Thunderlane. Together they had two kids, Nepthys and Zephyra. As for the otherfriends, they were either dating, single, or divorced. AppleJack had married but now she was single, with one child. Pinkie, well she never seemed to date. Rainbowdash was to free to settle down, she was happy with dating here and there. Yes, so much had changed.

When she got in the palace she was greeted by citizens and guards alike. People hugged her and cheered for her, it had been so long since Princess Twilight Sparkle had been in Canterlot. She blushed at the attention. Striding past the stares of everyone she entered the private council chambers. Inside was Luna, Celestia, and the rest of her friends.

“Hello Princess Twilight Sparkle,” Celestia greeted her. She bowed and entered with her husband. Taking their seats Celestia nodded to her sister, who rose from her chair. Luna walked to the center of the room. “Today I must tell you a story, and by the end you must help decide whether or not we take two lives.”

PT 3

“Long ago, there was a Princess. She was as beautiful and ever-changing as the Moon itself. But she felt forgotten, alone, and hated. She took on a new form that had enough hate and power to take over... Or so she thought. Now when the Princess became this person, she was someone new. She was not in charge, not controlling, and could not stop this new person. The living nightmare of herself snuck off one night, into the bitter cold. She soon found herself in a dark and evil place, ruled by a dark an evil Queen, who took the form of those you love. The Nightmare made a deal with the Queen. Together, they used dark magic to forge two Children. The children were born unnaturally, from magic of evil. The Nightmare returned to the kingdom she was from, only to be stopped and exiled. Eventulally the Princess got control of herself. She be came friendly. But now, 16 years later, the reality of this mistake is coming back to the Princess. She never wanted it to be true, nor get to know the kids. But the Princess has discovered something. She wants to protect them, show them happiness, give them a good life. She doesn't want them to fall into their own nightmares. 16 years may be long, but not so long that hope is lost. Everyone around her wants to destroy the children, but now the choice is up to you. Would you destroy them, or give them a chance?”

Twilight tried to process it all as fast as she could. She glanced at all her friends who seemed just as confused as her. “Well what would you choose?” Luna and Celestia quizzed the group.

“Well I don't think we could allow them into our society. They are ruffians and thugs,” Rarity spouted.

“Loyalty is unquestionable too. If they turn into two-timin' scoundrels, well then what would we do?” AppleJack said through her thick accent.

“I agree with AppleJack,” Rainbowdash said. She always took AJ's side.

“I see,” said Celestia,”these are all very good points. It seems we have decided what shall happen to them.” She turned to walk away, ending the meeting.

“WAIT!” Fluttershy yelled. Everyone turned in shock of her sudden outburst. “We have to give them a chance, everyone deserves a chance. Look at Discord,” She continued shyly. Discord and changed completely. Sometimes he still pranked people and goofed around but everything was harmless. He had developed feelings for a certain Queen and was dead set on winning her over. A new good period had taken over permanently for the deranged creature.

“Ya, Ya! Fluttershy could be Right!" Pinkie Pie charmed in. Celestia looked as taken back as ever. Friction was growing in the room, and now everyone looked to Twilight for help. Twilight put her head to the ground as everyone circled her. She peaked up out of her hair to the group. Her eyes skimmed her friends until she saw Luna. After she had told the story, Luna had stayed quiet and distant. The look she carried in her eyes was a mixture of pride and sadness. With a proud stance Twilight lifted her head to decide how things would play out.

Phantom Moon wasn't happy about this. Not one bit. Canterlot was a bustling city, and even thought she had lived here for half a year, she never truly liked it.

Ponies always looked at her with some dirty look, and since she wore her mask all the time they looked at her with fear as well. The royalty always scolded her for wearing her mask. They told her it wasn't lady like or polite to wear it, and to royalty image was everything. She hated the scolding and lecture she would get, but she couldn't stop wearing it, it made her who she was, it made her different and unique. She hated how everyone thought she was evil. Although chrysalis had raised her to be, she never felt satisfied being evil. She wanted the excitement of joy and love and friends. For the longest time she thought she would never feel that, but when her sister proved able to make a friend Phantom was determined to also.

"Hey Zephyra!" Phantom Moon shouted as her friend walked down the street.

Zephyra smiled and pranced up to Phantom. "Hey what's up ?"

Phantom Moon never had a way of making friends but after Asteria had so easily made friends with Zephyra it made it easier for Phantom to. It seemed she was closer to Zephyra than Asteria. They chatted and walked toward Canterlot's large garden where Zeph spent most of her time. Phantom enjoyed spending time with her only friend.

Zephyra was one of two children that Fluttershy had. Fluttershy and her family lived in Canterlot now, tending to everything animal related. And since Zephyra had gotten Fluttershys sweet heart traits she got along with the the children of Nightmare Moon. Phantom loved Zeph's good attitude and was happy to be friends with such a wonderful person. Occasionally she wished that Zeph's sister was this nice.

Countess Asteria was the meaner of the sisters, with a colder heart. But she had been able to make a friend when her sister couldn't. But Phantom had weaseled her way into the friendship and pushed Asteria out. More and more she was. Replaced by her sister. Asteria had tried to contain her negative feelings like the Royals taught her. But after seeing Phantom walking with Zephyra when Asteria had made plans for only her and Zeph angered her. She was done being nice.

Zeph and Phantom walked into the large garden, and walked all the way to the center where a large fountain sat. They got out the picnic stuff that Zeph had been carrying and sat down inviting bunnies and little creatures to eat with them. They. C had happily ate for 10 minutes before Asteria came in to the picnic area.

"Phantom leave," she said solemnly.

Phantom looked up at her sister. "What?" She simply asked, then looked back at what she was doing.

"I said, LEAVE," Asteria raised her voice.

Phantom and Zephyra both looked up at her now.

"Why would I leave?" Phantom asked irritably.

"I made plans with Zephyra, and you distracted her. She was my friend! You keep trying to steal her from me but I won't let you!" Asteria began

"She isn't just your friend!" Phantom said as she started to stand and face her sister.

"You can't just come in and force her to be your friend! She asked to be mine!"Asteria shouted,"She NEVER asked you!"

Phantom stepped back slightly, like she had been shot in the heart by the words. A little bit of a tear started to form in her eye, but she forced it back and stepped toward her sister again. "Why don't you say that again?"

Asteria saw the hate forming in her sisters eyes. She debated on whether or not to say it. But then she said," You have no REaL friends, and never will, because you force everyone. No one likes you, so why don't you just leave and never come back?"

Phantom reacted fast. With out a seconds thought she rammed her body into Asteria's, sending her sister flying back. Asteria hit the ground kind of hard, and winced at the pain. Phantom took a threatening stance and prepared to attack her again.

As Asteria stood up Phantom took a charging position. Right before she ran at her sister, she heard a voice,"Well there's no surprise. Attacking her own sister so brutally." Phantom turned to see Nephthys, Zephyra's sister. Nephthys had a burning hate for both Phantom and Asteria, but she showed more kindness toward Asteria, since she was heir to Luna's thrown.

"She started it!" Phantom Moon shouted.

"She merely spoke the truth and you brutally attacked her for it," Neph sneered.

"What, what she said wasn't true!"Phantom shouted, tears forming in her big eyes.

"My sister has no business hanging out with you, and only does it because she is scared of you,"Neph sneered again.

"Wait Neph, that's not---" Zeph tried to chime in, until Asteria cut her off.

"I told you Phantom. You aren't like the rest of us."

"You are just an ugly monster, you will never find friendship, happiness or love," Neph smiled.

The words were like a spark to gasoline. All the furry inside Phantom was real eased at once, and instantly she charged at Nephthys. A fire burned in her heart and soul. As she head butted Neph in the chest they both flew back. Phantom landed on Neph who pushed her off violently. Nephthys used her wings, which were stronger than Phantoms, to get an air advantage. Phantom knew she had no way of flying to Nephs speed. She had a better idea. Breaking the rule placed by the Queen of the Sun, Phantom summoned her powerful magic. She was only suppose to use this for good things or dire situations. This was neither, but in her eyes it was worth it. Her magic wrapped around Nepthys' wings without warning, making them immobile. With out a moments hesitation she crashed straight to the ground. Landing on her wing, it became slightly fractured. Phantom wasn't finished. Using her magic she pulled the roots for the trees and plants I'm the garden, and had them tire Neph down. Her cried out from the pain of the vines on her wing. Asteria and Zephyra stared with eyes wide open. Phantom took a deep breath and stepped back. She looked up at the garde, which was torn apart. Asteria had a few bruises and Neph had plenty of injuries. She stared intently at Neph. Then she dropped to her knees and started to cry.

The next day Phantom Moon was summoned to the castle courtroom. She waited in the room next door, until Celestia called for her. While sitting alone, the back door creaked open. Zephyra poked her head in the doorway. "Phantom?" She whispered quietly.

"Zephyra? What.. What are you doing here," Phantom asked with a voice filled with sadness and concern.

Zeph walked into the room and hugged Phantom. "What our sisters said wasn't true Phantom," Zeph said, squeezing Phantom Moon harder,"You are my friend, and an amazing one at that. If it comes to it, I will stand up for you."

With that she ended the hug, waved goodbye, and snuck back to the courtroom.

"Princess Phantom Moon, please report the courtroom"

Full of fear and a new found confidence, Phantom entered the courtroom. The crowds eyes stared her down. She looked and saw friends of Princess Twilight and other recognizable Canterlot inhabitants. Two royal guards walked her to the bottom of the thrones. Celestia and Luna sat on the two side chairs and Twilight sat in between them. Too the side of her was The Fluttershy family.

"Princess Phantom Moon," Celestia addressed her,"you have been summoned to this court under the accusation that you used your magic to wrongfully attack a Pegasus. Is this true?"

"No! That is not true!" Phantom be an to yell,"Her and my sister... They were bullying me!"

"That is not true!" Nephthys cut in.

"Yes it is. They were calling me evil, and saying that I forced people to do what I wanted and that I would never find happiness" Phantom had tears building in her eyes.

"Let's ask Asteria'" Twilight said.

Asteria was called to the courtroom where she blamed Phantom for attacking her for no reason.

"No it's not true!" Phantom cried out.

"It is two against one" Celestia stated.

"I gave you a chance. I did not see that you were evil at heart, and I allowed you and your sister to both live in our beautiful city. Your sister has showed no sign of hatred toward us. But you have resented us, and defied us. It is possible that you did this. Would you really betray my trust this much?"Twilight said.

"Please Princess, I didn't want this to happen. She just... She was so mean.., and Asteria..." Phantom was having a hard time keeping tears back.

"How do you plead Phantom Moon?"Celestia said with a booming voice.

"I... I... I plead guilty... Your majesty" Phantom said with her head down low.

The entire courtroom gasped at this. No one expected her to go down so quietly, and people began to doubt her guilt.

"Are you ready to accept your punishment?" Celestia said.

"Yes," Phantom bravely replied.

" You are herby Banished from Canterlot, and all the places in Equestria, under its rule."

PT 4

"Are you ready to accept your punishment?" Celestia said.

"Yes," Phantom bravely replied.

" You are herby Banished from Canterlot, and all the places in Equestria, under its rule."

Phantoms eyes went wide. This was unexpected, where would she go? She put her head down in defeat once again.

"No!" Someone I the crowd shouted. Everyone turned to look for the person that let loose the yell. There, in the middle of the courtroom, stood Zephyra.

"No, you can't banish her! She is my friend, and she may have been over the top, but those to really did say all those things to her!" She yelled. Phantoms eyes went wide.

"I'm sorry, but it has been decided" Celestia said.

"What kind of Queen would unjustly banish one of her citizens?!" Zephyra defied,"If you banish her then you better banish me too, because I won't live in a kingdom ruled by such a Queen."

Now the whole crowds eyes went wide, and Celestia's cheeks glowed a bright pink color.

"Perhaps, with this new found evidence, we lighten the punishment, don't you think your majesty?" Twilight said. Celestia nodded silently and Twilight sent a wink in Phantom's direction. "Luna, why don't you pick what happens?"

The three had a small council meeting, where they discussed the punishment, and finally they returned to the waiting crowd.

Luna stepped forward this time," We have decided the punishment. We see that the defendant did reacted to severely , but she was instigated. She will not be banished. We notice though, that problem is near where she lives. So, as her punishment she will be sent to the Crystal empire for 6 months. There she must aide the King and Queen there."

With that she turned away.

Phantom didn't know whether to be overjoyed with the fact that she wasn't banished or be fearful of the new place she would be visiting.

Later that week, she had all of her things backed up. 3 medium sized bags were going to be here only company for the long train ride to the Crystal Empire. She met at the station at noon. She stood alone, with two guards. She sighed and drooped her head down.m
