The Case of the Disappearing Unicorns
I saw a unicorn when I was six years old
I saw her in the grocery store
She stood tall and proud
She was beautiful
When she noticed me staring she smiled
Then vanished right before my eyes
I saw another form of the same unicorn when I was ten
This time the unicorn took the form of a mother
She was pushing her little girl on the swing and laughing
She saw me staring and smiled, nodded
Then her and her daughter vanished
I saw the unicorn last month
She was sitting at my kitchen table with her head laying down
She was crying
I walked over to her and put my hand on her back
The way you would great an old friend
When she saw me she didn't vanish
She just stared back at me
I looked in her eyes and I saw who she was
She was smart, and funny, and wise
I saw her face and ran outside to find forms of the unicorn laying dead in my front yard
I couldn't help but fall on my knees
This creature I had loved all my life
Was now laying lifeless
I began to weep
I slowly walked to each body and closed each of their eyes before kissing their blood spattered cheeks
I went back inside and saw two forms of the unicorn looking at me
One still had tears running down her face
The other looked happy
They hugged each other and smiled
Then the first was shot with an arrow, killing her
When I began to run over to her the other put her hand up to stop me
She smiled, kissed my cheek and touched my heart
Then she both vanished
I went to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror
I looked at my hands
They were stained with unicorn tears that looked a lot like blood
I looked back up at my reflect
Saw the unicorn behind but this time I didn't stare
I just smiled back
