Green Grass
The grass is always greener on the other side, or is it?
I drove past a pasture the other day and watched a cow stretch her neck through the barbed wire for a bite of grass. You might think that the herd had nibbled all the blades right to the dirt. Not so. There was still plenty of green blades within easy reach on her side of the fence, but she couldn't see it because she is too busy straining for that tasty bite just out of reach. Watching her made me think of my own situation. Instead of being satisfied with the good things I already have, I want new, bigger, or better things.
We all have the tendency to lose sight of how good we have it. It's easy to get bored with the routine. A relationship or job feels exciting when it's new but then we settle into a routine and it starts to feel boring. As the sense of dissatisfaction grows we imagine life would be if _____.
Now you can try to escape the old mundane. Some people switch jobs. Some people try a new relationship. Other people try moving. Those might help a little. At first you will feel but then the you will settle into the new routine and the cycle repeats, because there is one thing a different job, new boyfriend, or different town won't fix, and that's you. You can change your environment but external changes won't change what's inside.
