A Spotlight From Heaven That Touched My Soul

Throughout my life it has always amazed me that in my darkest hours, God has always managed to send me a sign. Even in those moments when I felt that He was a million miles away and had turned His back on me, He still always finds a way to show me His presence. Miraculously He always knows the exact moment to show Himself to us, when we are the most receptive to His help and we know that only He can pull us out of the depths of despair that we find ourselves in.

Have you ever found yourself doing exactly what you knew God wanted you to do and suddenly you found yourself blind-sided by something totally unexpected? There was a moment in my life where this happened, there was no doubt I was doing what God had called me to do, and within hours of a critical moment, I found myself totally hit from behind by something that I felt would surely destroy everything I had worked for.

This event hit me so hard that I wanted to abandon everything. Within minutes I found myself in my car. My intent was to run and leave it all behind, because at that moment I honestly felt that I had been completely abandoned. I have no idea how I arrived at my destination, but miraculously I found myself in an old cemetery that many past generations of my family were buried in. Tears streaming down my face I found myself on my knees in the middle of that hallowed ground crying out to God for help.

To this day I will never forget what happened, suddenly I felt a wind blowing across that hillside and it felt as if the generations that were buried in that cemetery were all speaking to me. As eerie as that sounds, it was not, because I knew that God was speaking to me, and His Words were riding the billowing wind, telling me to continue that which He had called me to do.

Recent events have again brought life’s dark clouds into my family’s life. The passing of my father-in-law and my wife’s uncle have created many anguishing moments lately. One of those occurred this Thanksgiving. We knew that this would be a hard day and decided to keep it simple.

After lunch we decided to make a trip to the cemetery, and like many Thanksgiving days it was very overcast and cloudy, much like the somberness of my mood as well. Driving down the road I found myself thinking and even questioning just how we could find ourselves where we are. Then just like every other time in my life, God appeared at just the right moment.

At that dreariest moment when the clouds seemed to not only cover the earth, but the darkness that hung over me, seemed to make me want to question my own faith. Suddenly as if on cue three holes appeared in the sky and sunlight that almost had the appearance of fingers streaming through those holes and onto the road on which we were traveling.

In that moment I knew God was speaking to me again, letting me know that everything was going to be okay. Suddenly that dark day seemed to show me hope for the future. Once again, in the midst of my darkest hour God opened a little hole in the clouds, reached down and His touch made my soul whole again.

Whether it is on the winds across a lonely cemetery, or a spotlight straight from Heaven, my God has always found a way to reach out to me. Other times in my life it was a phone call at precisely the right moment. We should all keep in mind that in the midst of those deepest darkest moments there is always a light from Heaven, or a voice in the wind, or even a friend reaching out without even understanding why. For those who believe, God will find a way to comfort and show you all is okay and He is still on The Throne!
