Butterflies and the story of Evi (the visitor)

Months went by and no one claimed the baby, which is what Ella had expected would happen. Who was going to drop a child so beautiful and so sweet in a garden just like that? Every thing about Evilyn was beautiful, her hazel eyes, her creamy, soft baby skin. She even had two beautiful birth marks on her back just between her shoulder blades and spine almost like two wings were meant to be there. She had another birth mark on he belly that looked like a little star.

Every day Ella was grateful for her wish granted by who or what ever power it be. She would have dreams sometimes about meeting a fairy who has blue and yellow butterfly wings and beautiful hazel eyes. Ella would thank the fairy and the fairy would just smile and flutter away into the sky. She assumed it was good and she always felt good when she would wake up from it.

Although Issac still was a little bothered by the whole idea of raising another child especially one that was wished for. He also thought how wonderful it was as well. He did not at all think his wife was crazy or telling tales about the wish or the voice in the garden. He loved his wife and was always supportive and if she made a wish and that's what happened then that's what happened.

However with that being said he had never seen an elf or any fae for that matter but he had heard tales about them. One of the tales was a cautionary tale about being careful what you wish for. See in magic there is always some kind of repercussion to any spell or wish. Sometimes it directly affected the individual who cast said spell or makes said wish. So he was wondering if she wished her wish than who or what heard it and also, who or what granted it. The other thought was that some poor family some where could be missing a family member. Not much could be done now that the wish had been made and that was fine.

Isaac and Ella and the boys loved Evilyn very much. Holden being age 9 and Otto being age 3 never really asked where the little one came from nor did they seem to care. They treated her just like they knew she was coming for some time.

Holden doted over her and was eager to help any time it was needed. He would sometimes watch the baby while mom would tend to the garden and he would stay home sometimes instead of hunting with his father to help his mother out with the baby so she could keep up on things around the house. Otto seemed to be indifferent mostly and probably because he was 3 and was always pretty easy going.

One day when Holden was watching his younger sister and his mother was in the garden and a strange old woman came to knock at the door of the home. Of course the young boy would not let her in and explained that his father and mother were both near bye and he would be happy to tell them about the visitor if she would only leave her name. He assumed she was a mute because she did not speak a word only smiled and then she pointed to a vas of lilies in the window and then pointed to herself. "Is your name Lily?" Holden asked. The woman smiled and shook her head in agreement. She turned away from the door and disappeared into the forest. Holden shut the door and told his mother about the visitor as soon as she had returned from the garden.

Ella had no idea who the woman would have been since she knew almost every one in the village. Isaac didn't know who she was either. It wouldn't be to long however before the old woman would be back and the family would find out who she was. Until then they would have to be left to just wonder.

Another couple of months went bye and the old woman called upon the house again and this time Ella would answer. Ella asked the visitor her name and again the woman pointed to the vas and Ella soon realized who she was and invited her in. Once the woman was inside the house and seated at the kitchen table a strange thing happened. Before Ella could even offer her some afternoon tea a strange feeling of worry overwhelmed her.

Just as strange as the feeling in the mood, the room went dark. The baby started to cry so Ella picked her up. The old woman looked up at Ella and she heard a voice even though she couldn't see any lips move. There was a voice coming from the old woman. It echoed through her head, "listen! I don't have much time".

The old woman proceeded to explain about the beautiful baby girl. "She is the only child of her kind, her mother is a fairy of the element of air but her father was a human". See fairies don't normally consort with the humans but this one had come up from the neither world and she had some how made friends with this boy.

Over time her and the boy became friends and the girl even though they could never be more than that wished that her and the boy could be connected in some way and share something forever. "With that wish unfortunately also came the thought of having a child". The fae have children but not the same way as a human. Once a fairy has found their soulmate than all that's left is a wish. The elements, (similar to the humans stork story) creates and delivers the baby.

However in this case the fairies soul mate was a human and when the elements got the information and the wish Evilyn was created.

Evilyn is the only one of her kind because she has the ability to live among both human and fae. She is also the only one of her kind to be created with all elemental abilities.

Ella didn't know how to take this information that had just been given to her. She asked the woman, "what does this mean for our family and our lives?" The old woman replied, "it means she will be different but no one knows how different or what will be different". "It means she may or may not have wings or may or may not have a lot of magic".

The woman also explained to Ella about what kinds of power Evilyn could have. She told her about the different gifts given to the elements. The Fae of air have butterfly wings and control the weather, as well as the gift of shape shifting. The fae of the earth have the gift of growing plants and resurrection. The fire fae control the flame and are keepers of the netherworld, they also have firefly wings and glow. Finally the water fae keep the lakes, rivers and all other bodies of water in check as well as the ability to read thoughts. "However," the woman explained, "none of these faerie can exist without the other fae elements."

The old woman then continued to tell Ella about how all the elements and magic in the universe works together. Also how important it would be to keep Evilyn safe and not to go around telling people how she came to be. Also just as there are good hearted humans and bad, make no bones about it there are good and bad fae as well. But the most important part to remember is around or just after Evilyns first birthday her abilities will start to show.

"It's important to not point and stare and to be supportive; for fae that first transition can be uncomfortable and awkward". Ella listened intently to all of what the old woman had to say and just as the mood had once been dark it lightened. The woman stood and smiled at Ella, turned towards the door and said, "you my dear have been blessed with a great gift and a great responsibility; help Evi to flourish and she can be capable of amazing things". She walked out the front door and again disappeared into the forest.

Ella held Evi close to her and snuggled and kissed on her beautiful gift. She was curious about what magic Evi would possibly posses. Since her birthday would be coming up soon and she had not seen any signs of magic yet.
