A Father's Heart
Father's Day is the one day we set aside to honor the men in our life who have made us who we are. Personally I'm pretty blessed because I am fortunate to not only have my father still living, but I'm thankful to have a father and father-in-law who are Godly men. Men of integrity whose word you could take to the bank.
A father’s love is very unique, not totally unlike a mothers love, but a father’s love is an honest love. While both parents love a child unconditionally, a true loving father will always tell you the truth. In my own life I find it almost funny the difference. Growing up if I ever got into trouble I would go to my Mom. You see I knew that whatever it was, my Mom would always take my side. You see a mother always feels a need to protect her children regardless of the details.
While I knew my Dad was also protective, I could always count on him to look for the truth and let me know if I was in the wrong. But that is the type of honesty that even today, if I really want an honest answer I'm going to go to my father. I may not always like the answer, but I know he has always been right. Funny thing is most of the time I knew what the answer was going to be, but was hoping for something different.
Just like our Heavenly Father, how many times have we prayed for something and didn't receive it, and later we figure out just how much trouble we could have had if we had received the answer we wanted at the time. It's kind of like the old Garth Brooks song, "I thank God for unanswered prayer".
I do believe that a father’s heart comes from our Father in Heaven. Because just as God loves us without conditions, He also makes it pretty clear what He desires of us to get to be with Him. So for this Father's Day I want to honor my Daddy and just say thanks for always being honest with me. And to my Abba Father I just want to say thanks for sending your Son so one day we can be in your presence for all of eternity.
