Rachel Marie

Belong

When her eyes are closed she sees darkness

And darkness she sees when they open again

She wants to escape to a place with no end

~

She lays with the lights off, holding her breath

She doesn't make a sound for fear that he'll wake

She wishes she could breathe in every breath he'd take

~

But he was not there

But he was at home

She imagined that place

Is where she belonged.

~

When her eyes are closed she sees a smile

Wide and full of thought as it opens again

She wants to escape so his smile will not end

~

She lays in her bed, seeing that smirk

She won't make a sound for fear and denial

That the love she'd wish to stay won't stay a while

~

Because he was not there

He was at home

She imagined that place

Is where she belonged.

~

And in that moment, minutes before sleep,

She smiled like he did as she wished down deep,

~

She wished he were here

She wished for their home

She imagine that place

Is where they belong.
