What I had missed

I looked up into his eyes and breathed. I knew how I looked. I was a mess.

I smiled through my tears,"there are things in life we can change and then there are the things we can't. The problem is that we often don't know which is which so we chase after the inevitable only to come back with less then what we had-" I choked on my words but Soon inhaled a great amount of oxygen and started again. "We think we can change what is destined to happen but we can't. Do you hear me? We can't!" I looked around at Central Park which we were standing in. The clouds were as grey as they could be and the wind just blew and blew. And just as I turned away rain started to pour. After walking away and getting 15 feet from him, I heard my name.

I turned back around to see him running up to me, "What is this all about? You're right. We can't change the way things are going to turn out. We can't change how people think or see us. But we can make the best of our time. We can smile. We can sing we can dance, and that sounds pretty good to me."

I laughed because what he said was right. I leaned in and kissed him. And in that moment I realized all that I had missed. I loved him.
