In The Case I Have a Daughter

if the lord ever happens to give me a daughter

please make it later rather than sooner

because i need time to adapt

its hard to raise a girl when you're talented and black

and if i have daughter i hope she not too much like me

because lord knows i never want her to see shit i've seen

and may she always know that i love her

and that i only want the best

i pray she never cries silently into her pillow at night

if she does, i pray she gets up and tiptoes to my room

but i pray this only happens every once in a blue moon

lord please let me do the best i can with her
