The Sleeper

It's late,

So exhausted she couldn't keep her eyes open

I lay next to her as she sleeps peacefully

Her head rests against my body, her rhythmic breath is just enough to break the silence

Even as she sleeps she's the best company I could ask for

I feel complete because she has chosen to rest her weary head next to me

I brush the hair back behind her ear and I realize she has never looked more beautiful

When she feels space between us she nudges closer until her body hugs mine

It's in this moment of simple peace and honesty that I understand more about love than I have in countless hours of conversation

I see simplicity in her beauty and beauty in her simplicity

She is the most honest thing in my world

And as much as I'm looking forward to seeing her eyes open in the morning I can't help but dream of the next time she closes them wrapped in my arms
