From Despair To Where?
I've had quite a bit of stress to deal with courtesy once again from Oldham Council. Last Friday I was due to have the monthly payment for my Support Plan to be paid into my Individualised Budget account to cover the coming month of November. There was nothing in the post and I checked the account to see if the money had gone in but it hadn't. Needless to say I was furious and I sent a round robin email to OMBC, the MP, Social Worker and local Councillors to explain my predicament. They promised to look into it but by Monday the account balance was at £32.76 and one of my carer's cheques hadn't cleared. I then sent yet ANOTHER email to everyone with a screenshot of my bank balance, threatening that if the money doesn't go in I'll go to the papers and expose them for sheer incompetency. On Tuesday I heard back from them apologising and promising that the money would be in the account by Wednesday. Well, I checked the account again on that day and lo, I was in the red to the tune of over -£120! I made an angry phone call to the Finance Department and it transpires that the money had gone directly to Instream Partnership, without my knowledge or consent! Apparently, this decision was made at panel and my Social Worker was privy to the information but had neglected to tell me. Fortunately Gary at Instream transferred the money on that day and thankfully it has now gone in the account and he was disgusted with what had happened. The whole situation is farcical to say the least. I fully envisage the same calamity occurring at the end of this month as well. My Social Worker has some serious explaining to do! The Assistant Director of Adult Services is looking into why the money hadn't been paid in and suggested there should be a 'float' of money to allow for this in the future so the account isn't overdrawn. All I can say is that this recent drama doesn't come as a shock to me. I've never in my life encountered such a bunch of ineffectual imbeciles masquerading as professionals. This is both embarrassing and stressful for both me and Mum and she especially can do without it. If they'd have left the £3.000 'underspend' in the account in the first place then we wouldn't be in this mess! It's a good job my Mum hasn't got a date for her operation as there's no money in the account to pay for carers, which is something I predicted would happen all along when this sorry debacle started. I really do despair with it all.....I wouldn't put OMBC in charge of an outhouse and we don't need this hassle whatsoever.
