Poundland Style Role Models
I’ve just committed the following to Instagram regarding the vacuousness and superficiality of reality stars, especially those who cheapen women by obsessing over their appearances. No doubt I’ll receive some angry notifications from the silly 16 year old girls who lap this TV garbage up by the bucketful! Aspiring to be someone who has little to trade on apart from her looks and shallow personality isn’t my thing. Informing and educating the immature minions isn’t probably worth my time either. However, here goes -
“So let me get this straight. Will Chloe Ferry still be beautiful after her 5th surgery? Maybe her 10th? Or perhaps her 50th? What you fail to see is that the only problem she has is inside her head, not on her face. She isn’t correcting herself due to disfigurement, ageing or health related issues, she’s doing it for vanity and image reasons. Yes, she’ll be happy with her nose for a while, then she might find something else to correct, then it’s back to the nose, then onto a tummy tuck...and so it goes on. It’s an addiction spiralling out of control due to body dysmorphia. Would you endorse Chloe if she was addicted to painkillers, alcohol or hard drugs? Or does anything go these days in our twisted hedonistic world whereby life choices cannot be questioned for fear of being labelled a ‘Troll’ or ‘hater’?
There are so many young girls who follow Chloe and do look up to her. What example is she setting? That image is everything? How about Holly Hagan who promotes sleazy hook ups via her tawdry website. Is that perfectly acceptable as well? Is that what girls aspire to nowadays? Ask yourselves this question, would you want your daughter to have plastic surgery at such a young age without the need? How about encouraging a lack of self respect alongside engendering a warped notion of relationships by having a history one night stands? Wouldn’t you rather want to instil in her qualities that are way more important like kindness, intelligence, empathy, compassion, decency, spirituality, tenacity, politeness, confidence, loyalty, supportiveness and acceptance?
Girls, you’re better than this. Look elsewhere for your role models. Maybe it’s your Mum, sister, friend, Grandma. Think about them and the many women throughout history who have changed things for the better. Think about how many women and girls struggle to get through each day, battling ill health, financial hardship, caring for children, fighting for equality and working hard against difficult odds. You’re all worth more than any Geordie Shore, TOWIE or Kardashian woman has to offer. Look beyond reality TV for true inspiration.”
