God, I do love bestselling children's author Jacqueline Wilson,

"As a child I loved reading but I thought children's books reflected a safe, middle-class world - parents never had any money problems, never quarrelled, and everything seemed easy for children. I remember thinking: "That isn't real". I was quite a weird kid. I read the problem pages in my Mum's magazines and was into solving other people's issues, so now that's what I write about."

A lady after my own heart is Jacqueline. I too was a weird kid who loved watching adult dramas and reading the agony Aunt page in magazines. You can forget fantasy, fairies and frippery. For me, gritty realism is my thing. She's an amazing novelist, just wish I had an ounce of her creativity when writing.
