The Politics of Cruelty
Cruelty. It's 'de rigueur' these days. Fashionable. On trend. In vogue. All the rage. Whether it's Manchester, Michigan, Madrid or Melbourne, the ideology of us versus them has never been more prevalent. Not in ways that would seem the most obvious or likely given the reckless actions of those who freely gamble with other people's money. Not a chance. Inexplicably, the CEO's, the pirates of Wall Street, the millionaires, billionaires, tax dodgers, aristocrats, and all the rest of the motley crew that make up the 10% have somehow dodged yet another bullet. You've got to hand it to the Elite, they always manage to pull something out of the bag and save themselves from the financial guillotine and the glare of public scrutiny. Call it electoral idiocy, denial or cognitive dissonance, I'm not sure as to why society continues to be duped in the face of facts.
Although our grotesque overlords have infinite strings to their bow, the populous never fails to give them a helping hand. Doesn't really matter that history has illustrated time and time again that things tend to turn to shit when we allow the Right to get a firm foothold in the political door. I mean, what's the problem with the atrocities of war and genocide when the megalomaniac dictators target those who live on the margins of society? At least it's not me in my ivory tower eh?
The thing is, this beast of injustice, oppression and inequality will never be sated. He is always hungry, craving more blood from those who are down to their last pint, and the proles are unfalteringly generous. So when will those of us who can see past the lies and manipulation the Government relentlessly doles out finally see our utopian vision come to fruition? I believe there's a very long and hard road ahead of us. With Trump in office making fun of a woman's allegations of sexual misconduct, (I mean, who would do that???) along with having a mile long litany of transgressions to his name, the end is nowhere in sight. Frighteningly, the Right have garnered a following in previously die-hard Democratic Socialist countries like Sweden. If that doesn't send a shiver down the spine of the righteous, I'm not sure what will.
The UK doesn't fare much better with the promise of further cuts to Council budgets meaning that ever more misery is on the horizon for those of us who dare to need State support to y'know.....live! The mantra of blaming and fearing the immigrant looking for a job, the disabled person unable to work, the single Mother who struggles to feed her kids, the homeless person who can't find an opportunity to get on the housing ladder, the elderly guy whose pension barely covers their bills and the youth on a soul destroying zero hours contract has now gone global. The Right are collectively rubbing their hands together and laughing hysterically at how easy it is to con you all. Pull the wool over your eyes. Hoodwinked and blindsided by Masters of deceit and deception. Again and again.....It's a trick that never gets old!
Nobody deserves this and we should be demanding better treatment from our Governments. The Right doesn't have the best interests of the poor and vulnerable at heart, they're taking the piss out of the easily fooled by using draconian tactics to gain political leverage. If you really want things to change, unlock yourself from the chains of mental imprisonment and be free. Stop believing in the Neo-Con agenda. It doesn't work, it never has. It brings nothing but misery to those who weren't born with a monetary passport to a life of contentment.
We should all strive for fairness, equality and justice. Dark times are ahead so we must reclaim our collective power to prevent the politics of cruelty from claiming even more victims. Enough is enough!
"Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing." - John Stuart Mill - 1867
