#SaveOurNHS
Now I'm not a fan of choirs whatsoever, I'll admit that, apart from Gospel choirs which would inspire Jesus Christ himself to attend church with their sincere passion. Having said that, I was once a member of a choir at school, even though the reasoning behind it was to piss about with my friend and get out of lessons!
Cynicism aside, I am absolutely made up with the fact that the Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir have taken the Christmas number one spot in the charts. If there was anything more fitting and more appropriate, I don't know what, (unless the second coming entered the X Factor....)
In all seriousness, the NHS is one of the things that is truly great about this country. The video showing doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals dedicating their lives to the wellbeing of the UK is wonderfully moving. There's something entirely befitting and humbling about the tireless work these men and women give to the nation. A job which often goes on in privacy, on low pay, horrendous hours and using stretched resources.
The Tories threaten to decimate the NHS. Let the Christmas single be a stark reminder of the great work they do. Let's not forget the wonderful, compassionate and altruistic Labour Party that brought this service into fruition. We can not lose this bastion of decency and servility to the crooked hand of greedy, right-wing rhetoric.
The fact that the video has an amazing quote from Aneurin Bevan at the end just adds to the many reasons to love the track.....
.....oh and it beat Justin Bieber as well. For that reason alone, we must be eternally thankful!
