Women And The Far-Right

Very worrying article today in the Sunday supplement about the increasing amount of women joining extremist, fascist political parties across Europe. You've only to look at the likes of the National Front in France fronted by Marine Le Pen, the rise of Golden Dawn in Greece and the women's faction of the English Defence League; EDL Angels. It was noted that the extreme right have now reached out to women, a policy now alien to their historical agenda of the subservient, subordinate woman whom only supports her husband rather than concerning her pretty little head with politics.

To say that the far-right has now had a, 'change of heart' towards the female gender is really quite laughable though. I balked at the idea that there are now countless knuckle-dragging, flag waving, shaven headed louts lamenting the ills of immigration, standing shoulder to shoulder with their wives and girlfriends in a chorus of hate-filled bile and vitriol. Perhaps secretly hoping for a punch-up with a lone Muslim on the way home.

The fact is that mysogyny and patriarchy have continued to reek their collective havoc on both men and women. Females having grown up on a diet of third-wave Feminism and 'lad' culture now believe in a mantra of, 'what's good for the goose is good for the gander', so doubtless there will be countless women endorsing even the most stomach turning of political persuasions. Far from being the previously asserted as the, 'gentler sex', women are now choosing to become activists in the worst possible way. The very fact that the women's sub-group of the English Defence League is entitled, 'EDL Angels' indicates a movement so deeply entrenched in patronising, sexist, patriarchal doctrine. Not to mention dabbling in oppressive, 'Princess' culture for good measure.

So it's no surprise that there's a rise in recruitment to extremist organisations from those of the female gender. Let's face it, the far-right need all the help they can get in spreading their bigoted, hate-filled rhetoric. Women are just there to make up the egregious numbers as a show of hands. Statistics merely designed to give extremism more media air time for them to churn out more disinformation. A deeply sad, pervasive situation across Europe.

Regardless of gender though, it's sad that both men and women have fallen for the lies perpetuated by right-wing governments and a media that merely fuels their collective agendas. To have true equality means making choices, but moreover, it means making an informed choice. I have a message for all those, men and women who are seduced by the, 'false flag' operations of extremist, racist and fascistic groups.
