Facebook Foibles

Right, I've got a proper beef about something. Have people become mard arses over the years or what? I ask the question because of the ludicrous posts I see on Facebook about how 'upsetting' the content can be, namely re-posts regarding child/animal abuse. Understandably, I appreciate that a barrage of negative posts can be unsettling and depressing, but surely awareness of the more harsh aspects of life can only be a good thing?

Whilst not appearing to be one of those maudlin bastards who love to 'wallow in the mire' and live vicariously through the medium of bad news, I can't help but think that batting away the realities of certain people's lives isn't a good thing at all. I believe any kind of awareness of the suffering of others is predominantly a good thing.

I remember Jay Rayner, (the son of celebrated Agony Aunt Claire Rayner) talking about how he knew the ins and outs of women's bits and pieces from a young age as his Mum never hid anything from him. He was comfortable dealing with and discussing 'difficult' and 'sensitive' issues which is just how I'd endeavour to bring up my children. I'd suggest it might make for a more well-rounded adult in the long run.

Unless people just want sunshine, Disney princesses and unicorns in their news feed then I suggest unfollowing those who don't meet their happiness quota and continue to live in a little bubble of their own making. It's easy, just click the offenders profile and turn on 'unfollow'.

As for people having to check their statuses for fear that it might upset little Johnny in Newport who might.....just might be glancing at the news feed of their Mummies Facebook then please, I can assure you, they won't turn into the next Peter Sutcliffe or turn into human versions of Eeyore the donkey. Take responsibility for your own kids, don't lecture others on the content of their posts.

Unless they're preaching hate or are Right-Wing tossers who deserve nothing short of lynching then let it go.......let it go!

See, even I can end a rant on a happy note! ;-)
