“I Can’t Stand Corbyn...”
The unbelievable hatred for Jeremy Corbyn I think emanates from a number of sources. The main one being that he’s constantly being vilified in the mainstream media. It hardly matters that the gutter press is ruled by ruthlessly wealthy elitists, the public love a good gossip regardless of any attempt to factually debunk the claims being made.
Secondly, the electorate don’t seem to latch onto those politicians who are quiet, measured, introspective, sensible and the antithesis of the in vogue “personality” politicians. This is why Boris Johnson is revered by the black / white simplistic mindset of the Right and those disenfranchised by Labour. His clownish persona appears relatable and down to earth despite his obvious affluence. Farage is another example of this ironic and confused interpretation of leaders who talk the talk but in reality are so far removed it becomes a staggering misjudgement on the part of the general public. People have a tendency towards quick fix / easy solutions to very complex problems and this is a further boost to the knee-jerk reactions of the Right. Brexit is a clear example of this.
Another factor is that we’re very ill-educated in terms of political understanding and we have been contaminated by 40 years of unadulterated Capitalism. The strikes of the 1970’s are still fresh in the minds of those who experienced them first hand. They have no concept of the 1930’s which served as a hellish warning of what happens when you allow rabid Right-Wing doctrine to flourish, unchecked and unquestioned. Negative history has an unnerving way of repeating itself.
Another factor is based on suspicion. They hear Jeremy Corbyn talk, listen to Labour’s policies and they all sound too good to be true. The public have a strange relationship with facts and live in something akin to a bubble of apathy and erroneous beliefs. Moreover, I believe that a lot of people have a somewhat ‘Del Boy’ aspirational ideology and seriously believe that they’ll be millionaires by next year. Realistically, we know that’s very unlikely but with the Tories always seeming to be cautious with the public purse, the masses believe that their finances will also be looked after.
Crazy I know but that’s what you get when a nation is deliberately starved of truth and education which is unbiased and honest. The only thing you can do is keep countering the lies and falsehoods. Some of the opinions that people have are so doggedly entrenched that it becomes impossible to engage with and challenge their beliefs. There’s little you can do to change these people so it’s better to just move on and keep speaking your truth.
