Ghostwriter Privacy

Using Ghostwriter is optional and completely private.

The writing prompt feature of Ghostwriter uses a generative AI model. If you use this feature, we securely and anonymously send snippets of what you're writing to the model, so that it can give you a writing prompt that's relevant to you. The model uses these snippets and then deletes them permanently.

Your writing has never been and will never be used to train AI models.

What gets sent depends on what you're writing:

• If the document you’re currently writing is blank, we’ll send a few short snippets from other documents you've written. This gives the app some idea of what you like to write, so that it can give you a suggestion that's useful to you. For example, if you usually write fantasy novels, this lets us give you a fantasy-related suggestion.
• Otherwise, just a short snippet of the current document is sent. This gives the app an idea of what kind of prompt will be useful to you. For example, if you're in the middle of writing a scene with two characters, the app can suggest a line of dialog for one of those characters.

If you choose not to use the writing prompts feature, absolutely nothing you write gets sent to third parties.
