Werdsmith

Novel Month

Join thousands of writers around the world and challenge yourself to finish the first draft of your novel this November.

Here are six tips to get the most out of this month:

Start your project

To get started:

  1. Create a new project or choose your existing novel project.
  2. Tap the word count button at the bottom of the screen, then set a word goal.
  3. Start writing!

The standard goal for Novel Writing Month is 50,000 words - but choose whatever is right for you.

As you write, Werdsmith will show you your progress to your goal and motivate you to keep writing.

Turn on Novel Mode

If you’re a member, you have access to Novel Mode, which formats your novel automatically as you write.

That means you can let us handle the formatting and just focus on your writing, without distractions.

To turn on Novel Mode for your project, tap the menu at the bottom of your project, then "Formatting".

Set a daily writing target

Writing a certain amount every day is the most effective way to reach your writing goal.

Werdsmith lets you choose a daily writing target, and will show you how close you are to reaching it.

To add a daily target, go to your profile, then tap Daily Target and choose whatever works for you.

To write 50,000 words this month, we suggest a target of 1,750 words per day.

Create a ritual

A daily writing ritual is a time you set aside each day to write. Werdsmith can help you remember to write by reminding you at a time that works for you.

To create a ritual, go to your profile, then tap Ritual.

Add widgets

Werdsmith has a number of widgets to help you keep track of your goal:

  • Project Stats lets you track the progress for your novel. You can see the number of words or how close you are to your word goal.
  • Daily Target shows you how close you are to reaching your daily writing target for the day.
  • Writing Stats shows you how many words you've written today.

You can add as many widgets as you like. To learn how to add a widget, tap here.

Enjoy yourself

The challenge is hard, but the important thing is to stick to your writing and do your best.

Good luck!
